Fruit tree nurseries take pride in their fruits because that is the only thing that they spend their time on. They spend hours mixing trees, hybrid trees, cross-breeding trees and growing the best quality fruit trees for your yard.

A tree nursery actually grows the products right on site which makes a huge difference when purchasing a tree. Farms get the trees from various locations at wholesale and offers them to you while nurseries grow them on site, they know the plants from birth to when they leave their place.

Arborvitae at Your Local Tree Nursery
AMERICAN ARBORVITAE
The American Arborvitae is a native to the state of Minnesota and its decoction is commonly used for medical purposes of treating fevers, rheumatism, cough, and toothaches. Commonly used names for this tree are White Cedar and Eastern Arborvitae. It can grow up to 40-60 feet in height and 15 feet in width in the wild. In urban settings it grows a little smaller at 20-30 feet in height and 12 feet in width. It growth is referred to as slow-medium at up to 24” per year. It North Dakota is the largest one grown to date, being 45 feet tall and 30 feet in width. The wood of this tree is used for many things such as posts, boxes, and furniture. The eastern red-cedar and the rocky mountain juniper are relatives to this particular tree.
This tree is grown for the purpose of being a windbreaker and should be plated about 3 feet apart. It is tall and narrow shaped like a pyramid, and in its earlier stages it is a columnar crown with roots that only spread to the crowns drip line. The buds are arranged in an opposite position, are dark green in color, and look like leaves. They are 1/8 inch in size and tend to be simple and scaly contained in four rows. The leaves are also short at 1/12 inch in length and 1/8 inch in width, with dark green to yellow-green coloring. There is not a lot of fall and wintering change with the leaves color. The monoecious flower is of both male and females sex, and very inconspicuous. It contains light brown cones and seeds, which are ½ inch with 8-10 scales and seeds measuring at 1/8 inch long. The bark is a grey color that sheds and the old bark contains shallow fissures on flat ridges.
This American Arborvitae grows well in the full sunlight, and is a popular choice among landscaping projects. They are tolerable of many different types of soils such as acidic, loam, moist, sandy and clay. They can be drought tolerant to an extent and should have well drained soil. In winter it provides shelter and a nesting place for grackles, while in the summer it does the same for robins and house finches. The winter weather can sometimes cause injury which happens in the United States more or less. The fruit provides food for deer, cottontail rabbits, snowshoe hares, and sometimes on occasion even moose. The seeds go to the birds like the pine siskins. The extracts of this tree are toxic to certain insect pests. Attraction of spider mites can happen when the heat is hot and dry. Bogworm can be a nuisance in the Northern Plains areas.
Come get your Arborvitae today at the TN nursery. We sell mostly every tree that comes to mind, along with shrubs, perennials, vines, and berry trees. Come visit to see what we have in store for you. If you’re looking for native plants we have those too at our native plant site, www.wetlands.com.

The Beautiful American Holly Evergreen Conifer
The American Holly (llex opaca) is a native to the United States being a part of the aquifoliaceae (holly) family. They are rare in the north and always small, but abundant in the south coast and Gulf States. As seen many times, this plant is very popular for Christmas decoration in churches and at homes. It does grow in all 50 states none the less, and is the state tree of Delaware. In the eastern states they are well liked for their foliage and berries, and are the only native North American Holly that grows to tree size. It was actually noticed by the pilgrims one week before Christmas in 1620 on the coast of Massachusetts.
The American Holly is a slow grower of only 6 inches or so per year, and tends to grow even slower in dry swampy soil. Light gray coloring covers the bark with rough lumps, and has stout green branches attached that are covered with a somewhat rusty looking down substance and turns smooth and brown later on. They are short and thin in size, with thick meaty roots. Winter buds that grow are short and acute while in the late spring the flowers are a greenish-white color. The flower stem is covered by little hairs and has separate male and female parts. Males have 4 stamens on the base of the corolla with attached anthers on the back, and have an oblong shape. One male can pollinate a number of females. While a females pistil has a superior ovary, 4 cells, and 1-2 ovules in each cell it contains. The females are responsible for the production of the red berries which are also called drupe, and they grow 6-12 mm with 4 seeds contained inside.
The leaves are in an alternating pattern and can grow to be 5-7.5 cm long and 2-4 cm in width. They are attached for 2-3 years until forced off by new bud growth which are yellow stiff leaves. The flowers are pollinated by many insects such as bees, wasps, ants, and moths. Even though the insects and mammals eat the berries, it would be bad for us since they would be poisonous. Birds like the thrush, mockingbird and bluebirds devour them, and the mammals being raccoon and deer that also use them as a source for food. Birds are also responsible for the propagation of these plants due to them carrying the seeds to many new areas. The thick canopy contained at the top, provides a shelter and homes for many birds from predators and storms alike. This tree can come in all sizes ranging from dwarf to 6 inches to 70 feet in height.
We have The American Holly at the TN Nursery for a low wholesale price. We also have many other products such as trees, shrubs, berry plants, perennials, and vines. There is so much more but you will have to come to find out for yourself. We have another site dedicated to native plants, such as shrubs, grass, and trees. Those are at www.wetlands.com. Native Trees Used In Landscaping
Native Plants, trees and shrubs are making a statement of their own again in the landscaping and nursery industry.Landscape Contractors and Architectures commonly used the flowering trees like the Pink Kwanzan Cherry and the fast growing Shade Trees like the Legacy Sugar Maple in landscapes for decades past. Now,the Business and homeowner are both noticing there's a more exotic side of landscaping with rare and native trees and shrubs.
We have noticed that our region we sell to alot is East Coast buyers,New York and Jersey mainly going back to the native trees and shrubs instead of the bright, flashy and fragrant shade, flowering, evergreen and ornamental trees.Developers and Homeowners a-like are wanting something no one else has. That's easy when you go to a native wholesale plant source.
Always check with your wholesale nursery grower to provide you with accurate information, reasonable prices, disease free trees and speciman quality. Most retail outlets that sells trees used "park grade" (#2 quality) and charges 9 times over the price of wholesale nursery growers. With a grower, you will get more bang for your buck.Nicer, straighter trees, state certified to be disease free and they will be alive when you get them planted.
Hope this helps anyone or someone...

Native Trees For Restoration
The Forest Service already protects and conserves its Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland (ASNW). Unfortunately, these woodlands are now represented by very small fragmented remnants of woodland that once covered most of the country.
Only three types of Semi Natural Woodland can be found today; upland oakwoods, upland mixed ashwoods, and wet woodlands.
What is Semi-Natural woodland?
Semi-natural woodlands are composed of locally native trees and shrubs which derive from natural regeneration or coppicing rather than planting.
What is an Ancient Woodland Site?
An Ancient Woodland Site must be shown on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey maps (produced in 1830), and have been semi-natural at that time. Furthermore, tree cover will have been maintained from 1830 to the present day.
What are Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites?
Most ASNW was converted into farmland before 1830. However some areas of Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland were converted into commercial forest plantations during the 20th Century. These are called Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS).
What does the Forest Service intend to do with its PAWS?
The Forest Service intends to restore native woodland on at least 10% of its PAWS, thereby increasing the area of each habitat type over the next 15 years. This equates to the restoration of at least 200 hectares of PAWS.Native woodland will be restored on PAWS that will be most likely to:-
1. develop the associated ground flora characteristics, and
2. help ensure the long term survival of these rare habitats in our countryside.
Why restore only 10% of the PAWS area?
Most of the woodland that was shown on the 1830 maps was planted. Very little information was available to categorically reject these woodlands, and identify the woodlands that were semi-natural in 1830. Therefore only a small proportion of the PAWS area is worth restoring, because much of it is derived from woodland that was planted on bare ground before 1830.
An evaluation system was used to prioritise those sites which should be restored.
How will restoration be carried out?
The plantation trees will be removed from the site gradually by thinning the trees over a period of time, allowing native trees to establish under the plantation trees before they are all finally removed. Where this cannot be carried out, mainly due to the increased risk from windblow, the plantation will be clearfelled. This will allow pioneer tree species, such as birch, to recolonise.
The native woodland cover will be re-established using natural regeneration where possible, or by replanting with stock grown from seed collected locally.
It will take several years for a restored native woodland to develop into a valuable habitat, exhibiting characteristics such as;
an uneven age structure,
large amounts of deadwood,
sensitive species of woodland ground flora,
rarer forms of lichen, mosses, and fungi
When was the first restoration project started?
The first restoration (of an upland oakwood) project began in June 2001 at Breen, Co. Antrim followed in 2002 by the restortion of a mosaic of all three native woodland types at Aghaleague in Co. Fermanagh.
The Forest Service is committed to restoring at least 200 hectares of native woodland before 2015.
